When: Thu., March 31, 5-9 p.m. 2016
The gluten-free lifestyle isn’t one that’s typically associated with indulgence, but Homeroom (400 40th St., Oakland), the wildly popular mac ’n’ cheese emporium, plans to defy that stereotype for at least one night. This $22 prix fixe dinner is the rare gluten-free restaurant meal that’s meant to hit all the comfort food buttons: gluten-free mac ’n’ cheese, a pint of gluten-free cider, and, for dessert, a gluten-free brownie. The dinner will also shine a spotlight on four women-owned food businesses that are based in the Bay Area — not just the host restaurant, but also Crooked City Cider (which will provide four ciders on tap); City Baking (the brownie-maker); and Edison Grainery, whose quinoa-based elbow macaroni are an option at Homeroom even when the restaurant isn’t doing a gluten-free theme night.
