Olympia, Washington hardcore band G.L.O.S.S. doesn’t abide by politically correct standards for resistance against the patriarchy. On the band’s latest EP, Trans Day of Revenge, singer Sadie Switchblade opens the track “Give Violence a Chance” by screaming If peace is just another word for death/It’s our turn to give violence a chance. Outspoken about her trans identity, Switchblade uses her lyrics as an urgent call to action against the disproportionate levels of violence and discrimination trans women face. Indeed, G.L.O.S.S. stands for “Girls Living Outside Society’s Shit,” and the band’s work is a refreshingly brutal protest cry that has shaken up the status quo of the largely straight, male hardcore scene. G.L.O.S.S. performs at Crate in Oakland on August 11 with Inverts, S.B.S.M., Firewalker, and Pure Disgust.
