Global Sol Festival

Hamsa Lila

When: Fri., Aug. 6, 7 p.m. and Sat., Aug. 7, 7 p.m. 2010

Richmond was once home to the largest auto assembly plant on the West Coast -- a 525,000-foot compound that pumped out Ford Model As and, later, tanks and heavy equipment during WWII. The factory has long since moved away, but it left behind a space that now houses The Craneway (1414 Harbour Way, Richmond), a stunning, multipurpose venue with floor-to-ceiling windows, cathedral-height ceilings, and stunning views of San Francisco. This weekend, the newly redesigned venue hosts Global Sol, a two-day music festival benefiting the Women's Earth Alliance. The festival features and is produced by members of bestselling world music outfit Hamsa Lila, and also marks the return of Nineties-era hip-hop group Arrested Development, which hasn't toured the West Coast in more than a decade. August 6 and 7, 7 p.m.-4 a.m.; $35-$75 for one day, $65-$130 for two.
