Atlanta's Girlymanhas been called the "gay Peter, Paul and Mary," because of their beautiful harmonies, social consciousness, and three distinct personalities working harmoniously together. Each member contributes original material and they switch off on lead vocals, with a style that adds pop, rock, bluegrass, blues, and jazz to its folk outlook. Their concerts combine heartfelt originals with choice covers and amusing anecdotes. Somewhere Different Now (Live), the group's forthcoming album, includes some great new originals, but you don't have to wait until the album drops to hear them.Girlyman plays Friday, May 9 at the Freight and Salvage (1111 Addison St., Berkeley). 8 p.m., $19.50, $20.50.
