Giacomo Puccini's Turandot.

When: Sat., July 11, 8 p.m., Tue., July 14, 8 p.m., Fri., July 17, 8 p.m. and Sun., July 19, 2 p.m. 2009

It's dueling divas this week, with Berkeley Opera's The Ballad of Baby Doe competing for attention with Festival Opera's Turandot. Not wishing to incur the ice princesses' wrath, I'll go with Puccini's final, uncompleted opera in Walnut Creek. The largest production that Festival Opera has ever mounted, and undoubtedly one of the grandest, the performance stars Canadian soprano Othalie Graham, debut tenor Christopher Taylor (who hopefully will not bleat his way through "Nessundorma"), Rebecca Sjöwall, and Kirk Eichelberger. At the Lesher Center for the Arts(1601 Civic Drive, Walnut Creek) July 11 & 14. 8 p.m., $39-$100. FestivalOpera.com or 925-943-SHOW
