Familiar Judd Apatow guy-comedy scenario has a secret weapon: British bad boy Russell Brand, here reprising his hilarious “Aldous Snow” rock-star character from Apatow’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Notorious libertine/drunken sot/perennial coaster Aldous is attempting to revive his career with a concert at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre -- and it’s up to funny fat man Aaron Green (fellow Apatow stock player Jonah Hill), a flustered record label operative, to babysit Aldous all the way from London to the gig, through a gantlet of drugs, babes, wild parties, etc. Brand, Hill, Colm Meaney (as Aldous’ dad), Elisabeth Moss (as Aaron’s wife), and P. Diddy Combs (Aaron’s boss) have a field day, and so will you. Written and directed with perfect timing by Sarah Marshall helmer Nicholas Stoller (109 min.).
