Geoffrey Gray: "Skyjack: The Hunt for D.B. Cooper"

When: Mon., Aug. 22, 7 p.m. 2011

Forty years ago, a smartly dressed man politely hijacked a Boeing 727, successfully extorted $200,000 in ransom, and parachuted somewhere over the Pacific Northwest, never to be heard from again. Though the man known as "D.B. Cooper" has eluded authorities (if he in fact survived), his brazen feat lodged into the American consciousness, led to a massive investigation, and earned him a reputation as a modern-day Robin Hood of sorts. For his debut book, New York Magazine contributing editor Geoffrey Gray examines the hunt for the hijacker and uncovers new leads in the process. He'll discuss Skyjack and the unsolved case at Books Inc. (1760 Fourth St., Berkeley) on Monday, Aug. 22. 7 p.m., free. BooksInc.net
