Genius Within: The Inner Life of Glenn Gould

Rated NR 109 min. 2010

The late, legendary classical pianist Glenn Gould is revealed to be even more eccentric than previously thought, in this inspiring documentary profile by Peter Raymont and Michèle Hozer. Covers all the bases, from Gould’s fame as a Canadian unknown with an uncanny knack for J.S. Bach in 1955, to his ups and downs with emotional issues, pills, and relationships with women. And of course his special chair, a sawed-off wooden affair that served as a sort of launching pad for Gould’s brilliant piano interpretations. Talking heads include musical collaborators Roxana Roslak and Petula Clark, and lover Cornelia Foss. (106 min.)
