Gayle McLaughlin

When: Wed., June 25, 1:30 p.m. 2014

Over the last few years, Richmond Mayor Gayle McLaughlin has stood up to Big Soda (by supporting a landmark, ultimately doomed soda tax); Big Oil (by repeatedly jumping in the ring with Chevron, her city’s biggest employer and biggest polluter); and, most recently, Big Banks (when she proposed an unprecedented measure to use eminent domain to seize foreclosed homes). Perhaps unsurprisingly, she’s become something of a progressive folk hero nationwide. Hear her speak about the city and its future this week at the North Berkeley Senior Center (1901 Hearst Ave., Berkeley) in a talk entitled “The Road to a Progressive Future Runs through Richmond, CA.”
