G-Side

When: Tue., Dec. 20, 9 p.m. 2011

Squadda B and Mondre M.A.N. are pastiche artists as well as rappers, given that they scavenge beats from a variety of improbable sources (including YouTube, as Express writer Will Butler indicated in a recent blog post). Yet their group, Main Attrakionz, is one of the more imaginative hip-hop outfits to emerge from the East Bay in recent years. It's buoyed by the rappers' atmospheric beats, woozy vocal intonation, and apparently indefatigable work ethic -- they released a whole spate of tracks via cloud platforms before dropping the mixtape808s & Dark Grapes on BandCamp. Main Attrakionz performs this week as a supporting act for G-Side, a southern rapper who also favors slow beats and murky production. Also on the lineup: Fillmore emcee DaVinci, who made his name rapping about the disparities of urban life. They all appear on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at The Independent (628 Divisadero St., San Francisco). 9 p.m., $15. IndependentSF.com
