Rated NR 115 minutes 2009

From behind the wheel of his biofuel-powered Veggie Van (it runs on used cooking grease), documentarian Joshua Tickell takes us down a familiar road, pointing out the failings of the “military-petroleum complex” while showing how inventive enviros are finding sustainable-fuel solutions in Germany, Sweden, and Las Vegas. Biggest revelation: that Prohibition in the 1920s was largely instigated by oil companies in order to stop ethanol (derived from corn, as was liquor) from being used as automobile fuel. This trip turns out to be necessary. Written by Johnny O’Hara, with talking heads testimony by Larry Hagman, Woody Harrelson, and Neil Young (112 min.).
