Tray after tray of factory-bred chicks hit the ground, hard. That image tells us all we really need to know about the advisability of industrial farming, but there’s more damning evidence in Anna Sofia Joanes’ documentary – a worthy companion piece to Food, Inc. And also several rays of light amid the gloom. Such experts as Michael Pollan (“There is no such thing as cheap food”), Virginia sustainable farmer Joel Salatin, urban farmer Will Allen from Milwaukee, and David Ball, a “buy fresh, buy local” grocer from Kansas City, offer their solutions to “animal cities” and chemical-filled fruits and veggies. In a nutshell: “Heal the land, heal the people, and throw away the drugs.” (70 min.)
