Any way you look at it, this is the week when composer and pianist Frederic Rzewski (pronounced Chesky) dominates the scene at MillsCollege and beyond. First, on September 19, the Eclipse Quartet and extraordinary percussionist William Winant perform his Whimwhams as part of the annual free Darius Milhaud concert. (Works by Milhaud and Crawford also are on the program). Two days later, he performs Mendelssohn's complete Songs without Words at the annual Dewing Piano Recital. Finally, next Wednesday, he plays a complete program of his own works, including the recently completed War Songs. If you can only attend one if these concerts, Rzewski Plays Rzewski gets my vote. At Lisser Hall, MillsCollege, Oakland, on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 8:00 p.m. $12, $6 for seniors.Music.mills.edu/events or 510-430-2296.
