After twenty years in the local specialty-food and natural-food industries and the Slow Food movement, Frank Ashton opened Downhill Winery in Los Gatos, specializing in small batches of such selections as a Syrah Grenache blend called Slippery Slope. On April 17, meet Ashton at Blackhawk's wine bar, Bella Vino (3450 Camino Tassajara, Danville), where he'll talk about his work and wines, and will sign bottles. 6 p.m., $10 tasting fee.
