When: Thu., April 21, 5 p.m.-12 a.m. 2011
With its kitschy drinks and oldies-packed jukebox, Forbidden Island (1304 Lincoln Ave., Alameda) is so steeped in classic tiki nostalgia that it's hard to believe it hasn't been standing on Alameda's Lincoln Street forever (or at least since the Sixties and the height of Gilligan's Island). Nonetheless, the Alameda bar and restaurant will ring in its fifth birthday on Thursday, April 21, with an all-out tiki party featuring DJ Otto Von Stroheim, billed as one of the founders of the tiki movement; a live custom velvet painting; the unveiling of the bar's all-new premium rum selection; and drink specials, tiki torches, and general aloha aplenty. 5 p.m.-midnight, free. 510-749-0332 or ForbiddenIslandAlameda.com.
