Experimental & Avant-Garde

Flying Lotus

When: Thu., Oct. 25, 8 p.m. 2012

Experimental electronic artist Flying Lotus has embarked on a three-month-long international tour (his longest yet) to support his latest album Until the Quiet Comes,  which though distinctly Lotus-sounding, is a slight departure from 2010's Cosmogramma. Deriving much of his beats from mid-century jazz, Until the Quiet Comes shows Flying Lotus embrace the heavier basslines of his contemporaries, meaning there might be some real potential for dancing at his set. In it he weaves artful atmospherics, giving the idiosyncrasies of his beats some oxygen and room to be contemplated. Steve Ellison (or "FlyLo" as he is sometimes known), like many other electronic musicians, is known for the visual accompaniments at his shows. Expectswirling light displays and projection of fluttering images, making the soundscape more realized and complete. Flying Lotus will perform at Fox Theater (1807 Telegraph Ave.) on Thursday, Oct. 25. 8 p.m. $25.TheFoxOakland
