Girl groups may be one of the most underrated musical genres of all time: There's an entire canon of golden-age girl-pop that's rarely unearthed, and even more rarely honored. In honor of that legacy, this month's iteration of Pegasus Books' (1855 Solano Ave., Berkeley) First Person Singular series celebrates both Valentine's Day and the likes of The Shirelles, The Ronettes, and The Cookies in all their bubble-gummy glory. But there's a catch: Local musicians Theresa Kelly and Joe Christiano, accompanied by Joshua Raoul Brody on piano, will reimagine the music in the style of a classic recital. The event on Wednesday, Feb. 16, benefits WriterCoach Connection, which pairs Berkeley public-school students with adult writing coaches. 7:30 p.m., $10 suggested donation. 510-525-6888 or PegasusBookstore.com.
