Fever Pitch

Rated PG-13 2005

A sweet and ingratiating romantic comedy that asks that age-old question . . . can a man love a woman as much as he loves his favorite sports team? And can a woman put up with a man who morphs into a raging lunatic six months out of the year? These questions confront high school math teacher and Boston Red Sox fanatic Ben Wrightman (Jimmy Fallon) and successful businesswoman Lindsey Meeks (Drew Barrymore). An unusually tame film from Peter and Bobby Farrelly -- better known for politically incorrect, crudely humorous movies such as There's Something About Mary and Me, Myself and Irene -- Fever Pitch sails by on cute dialogue, some funny visual gags, and two enormously likable leads -- to say nothing of the fact that the Red Sox actually managed to win the World Series last year. A sweet, almost overly chaste date film, recommended for all but Yankees fans.
