Festival Opera

When: Sat., July 9, 8 p.m. and Tue., July 12, 8 p.m. 2011

Once again, dear Violetta tries to be the life of the party, even as the life is ebbing from her body. Love is a great healing force after the ravages of consumption, until dastardly daddy steps in and breaks up the financially costly but emotionally rich affair. I'm talking about Verdi's La Traviata, of course, in Mark Foehringer's production for Festival Opera. Conducted by Michael Morgan, and featuring a young, attractive cast that includes Rebecca Davis as Violetta and Andrew Whitfield as Alfredo, the opera runs for four performances through July 17. Next week, Violetta has her undoing at theLesher Center for the Arts (1601 Civic Drive, Walnut Creek) on Saturday, July 9 and Tuesday, July 12. 8 p.m., $39-$100. 925-943-7469 or
