When: Sat., Aug. 9, 8 p.m. and Tue., Aug. 12, 8 p.m. 2008
I can't blame anyone who decides to head to the SouthBay for the almost-daily concerts of glorious chamber music at Music at Menlo, or who spends their weekend at the Cabrillo Music Festival of Contemporary Music in Santa Cruz (where I'll be). But I'm also heading to the second evening of Festival Opera's production of Benjamin Britten's delightful A Midsummer Night's Dream. I expect the performance will bring the audience to its feet. Although we won't have the wonderful Marnie Breckenridge in the lead role of Tytania, her replacement, Merola alumna AniMaldjian, should be excellent. Plus we get to hear ex-Chanticleer countertenor William Sauerland, the superb Kirk Eichelberger, and several other fine artists. At the Lesher Center for the Arts (1601 Civic Dr., Walnut Creek) on Saturday, August 9 and Tuesday, August 12. 8 p.m., $13-$46. FestivalOpera.com or 925-943-7469.
