Festival of Grassroots Economics

When: Sat., Sept. 26, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. 2009

Urban gardens, reuse depots, food cooperatives, barter systems, credit unions, democratic management, cohousing, slow food, composting -- all will be part and parcel of a leaner, more sustainable future that's getting closer and closer to reality. On Saturday, Sept. 26, local organization JASeconomics (Just Alternative Sustainable Economics) will showcase a variety of cooperative production and distribution systems, none of which rely on traditional models of supply and demand. JASecon'sFestival of Grassroots Economics takes place at Oakland's Humanist Hall (390 27th St.) and will feature exhibitions from local coops, bicycle repair clinics, natural healing demos, a farmers' market, and other progressive enterprises. 10 a.m.-4 p.m., free.
