Festa dei Sette Pesci at A16 Rockridge

When: Thu., Dec. 24, 5:30-10 p.m. 2015

For many Italian-Americans, Christmas Eve wouldn’t be Christmas Eve without the traditional Feast of the Seven Fishes, a seafood-centric meal whose number of courses may or may not have originally corresponded to the number of sacraments of the Catholic Church or the number of days of Creation. This year, A16 Rockridge will serve one of the most luxurious Christmas Eve prix-fixes in the East Bay: a seven-course, mostly locally sourced seafood spread that will include fried oysters, gnocchi with smoked trout, roasted albacore, and the bouillabaise-like fish stew known as brodetto — plus two desserts. The meal will be served family-style — because, short of having your own nonna preside over the feast, nothing quite captures the holiday spirit like passing the pasta bowl around the table, and fighting with your cousin over the last custard-dipped zeppole. — Luke Tsai

Price: $90 (plus optional wine pairing)
