DJ & Dance

When: Sat., Jan. 26, 9:30 p.m. 2008

Better known for self-lacerating humor than lurid rap bravado, ex-Pharcyde emcee Fatlip still cuts a striking figure with his lanky frame and perpetually startled blue eyes. Yet, at his performance on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Shattuck Down Low (2284 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley), it's opener Tony Vic who'll likely be the real star. Vic, who has collaborated with everyone from Oakland chanteuse Jimmie Reign to producer Kev Choice and jazz keyboardist Mike Auberg, officially entered the local rap scene with last year's The Vic(S)tory Album -- a witty, well-paced, and cleanly produced first effort that didn't get the acclaim it deserved. At this show, he'll foray into the backpacker world, perhaps with surprising results. Also featuring Omni, this event starts at 9:30 p.m. and costs $12.
