When: Wed., May 11, 6:30-9 p.m. 2016
In her new book, Farmsteads of the California Coast, Berkeley-based food writer Sarah Henry offers a behind-the-scenes peek at thirteen California farms, sharing insights from some of the region’s hardest-working, most well-regarded, and most innovative farmers and food artisans. If you dine at farm-to-table restaurants in the East Bay or shop at the local farmers’ markets, chances are that you’ve already familiarized yourself with their handiwork. This book-signing event, hosted by The Cook and Her Farmer (510 9th St., Oakland), will offer an even more immersive experience: Chef Romney Steele will cook a meal using products from several of the featured farms: strawberries from Swanton Berry Farm, oysters from Hog Island Oyster Company, water buffalo gelato from Double Eight Dairy, and so forth. Several of the farmers profiled in the book will be on hand, so this will be a unique opportunity to break bread with them. Tickets, which are all-inclusive and come with a copy of the book, are available for $115 via EdibleExcursions.net.
