Farmers Markets

Farmers' Market with Civil Labs

When: Sat., Nov. 7, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. 2015

On Saturday, the East Oakland Youth Development Center (8200 International Blvd., Oakland), which works to build up the social and leadership skills of high-risk youth between the ages of 6 and 24, will host its first farmers’ market. Held at the center’s newly expanded and renovated facility, the market is the latest in a series of food-centric events (which also include a dinner that the kids cooked and an upcoming field trip to a farm) that the center has organized in collaboration with the nonprofit Civil Labs. For the kids, running the market will offer yet another opportunity for them to get excited about fresh fruits and vegetables. For the rest of us who attend? Fresh produce from a number of local farms will be available for sale — plus lots of free samples and, of course, an opportunity to support local youth. — Luke Tsai
