Fariba Nawa

Journalist Fariba Nawa was nine when her family fled Afghanistan for Fremont. Two decades later, she returned, and soon met the twelve-year-old child bride who inspired Opium Nation. The book takes the reader inside the Afghan drug trade, shining a light on poppy farmers, addicts, kingpins, and corrupt government officials alike. Nawa reads and signs books at the Fremont Main branch of the Alameda County Library (Fukaya A Room, 2400 Stevenson Blvd.) on Monday, Mar. 5. 7-8 p.m., free. 510-745-1400 or ACLibrary.org
