Fair Game

Rated PG-13 108 minutes 2010

The true story of how the Bush administration ruined the careers of CIA agent Valerie Plame (Naomi Watts) and her diplomat husband Joseph Wilson (Sean Penn) for exposing the “weapons of mass destruction” subterfuge/justification for the Iraq invasion, circa 2003, is more than just another of Participant Media’s depressing stories of life in corporate-controlled America. They actually make an attractive couple. And filmmaker Doug Liman (the Bourne movies, Swingers), with help from Jez and John Henry Butterworth’s screenplay (adapted from books by Wilson and Plame), takes us on an exhilarating, if disheartening, trip behind the headlines. Notice how the bad guys, true to form, all pronounce it “new-kew-ler.” (104 min.)
