Eve Ensler

When: Mon., May 20, 7:30-9:30 p.m. 2013

Eve Ensler is perhaps most known for her 1996 play, The Vagina Monologues, and for helping us reach the point of "peak vagina," as eloquently put by Jezebel's Jessica Coen. But the activist didn't stopped there. In her newest brave instance of baring it all, Ensler has published a memoir entitled In the Body of the World, which chronicles the sexual abuse she endured at the hands of her father, the terrors she witnessed in the Congo, and her recent diagnosis with uterine cancer. Through her narrative, she makes a strong case for how she decided to devote herself to stopping violence against women and girls. Hear her in her own words on Monday, May 20, at First Congregational Church (2501 Harrison St., Oakland). 7:30 p.m., $35 in advance, $38 at the door (includes signed book). 510-649-1320 or
