Considering the fact that Evan Almighty is the most expensive movie comedy ever made, one would expect it to be far more ambitious than it is. In fact, it's wholly conventional except for the nonstop digital effects that bring to life hundreds of species that have collected around the titular character (Steve Carell) and float the modern-day Noah's ark in one hell of a CGI flood. As a loose sequel to the Jim Carrey-starring Bruce Almighty, it proves a decent romp for families, entirely innocuous in its heavenly innocence, but its quest to win the church-going vote with a politician who bows to the will of God (Morgan Freeman) proves forgettable as soon as the sermon is over.
