Aurora Theatre Company’s new play might hit a little too close to home for many Berkeley residents. The setting: Eureka Day School, a Berkeley private school where all decisions are made by consensus. In Eureka Day, parents are met with a health crisis and debate the value of vaccines. While balancing the school’s stance that all opinions are valued, they realize they have different definitions of safety — and facts. On the heels of the anti-vaccine movement in California and in the midst of the president of the United States calling everything “fake news,” Eureka Day is as topical as it gets. This world premiere comes from Oakland’s Jonathan Spector, an award-winning playwright whose past works include Good. Better. Best. Bested. and This Much I Know, and director Josh Costello, who also directed Aurora’s Detroit, Wittenberg, and The Heir Apparent.
