As you may have read, lefty Internet activists are miffed at East Bay Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher -- so miffed, in fact, that they're planning to find a Democrat to challenge her in the 2008 primary. But as the Express reported, the Netroots folks are seriously deluded if they think Tauscher's district is as dissatisfied with her as they are. Now comes more news of the congresswoman's clever retail politicking. According to the Vacaville Reporter, Tauscher has announced that the Department of Homeland Security will donate more than $150,000 to two local firehouses, in order to "improve their operational and safety practices." Now that Tauscher has been careful to spread the pork around, she gets a chance to be quoted in the Reporter reminding readers it wouldn't have happened without her: "I'm glad to work with our state and local governments to ensure the firefighters in Dixon and Suisun City have all the funds they need to keep us safe and secure." Note to the Netroots: This, not giving the president the finger, is what gets you re-elected in the tenth district.
