Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me

Rated NR 86 minutes 2014

Broadway stage musical veteran Stritch is an acquired taste. Her fans will undoubtedly enjoy this documentary profile of the 87-year-old chantoozie as she tries to put together her cabaret show; others may sigh impatiently. Yet she has led an interesting life: dated JFK; married the English Muffin King; palled around with Stephen Sondheim; got Noël Coward to write a musical for her, etc. Filmmaker Chiemi Karasawa obviously can’t get enough of Stritch’s boozy, pills-y monologues. Also appearing as themselves: colleagues Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, and James Gandolfini (80 min.).
