World, Latin, & Reggae

When: Fri., May 30, 9 p.m. 2008

One of reggae music's most eccentric personalities, the man born RiptonHylton has been commanding stages everywhere since he stole the show at 1981's Reggae Sunsplash. A dancehall jester, Eek-A-Mouse's pinched growl doesn't quite gibe with his towering six-foot-six frame. That said, he wraps his unique style of sing-jaying, (not quite singing, not quite toasting), around commentaries ranging from the search for a chaste girl and ganja smuggling to bizarre takes of the Addams Family Theme and Led Zeppelin. The Mouse will be bringing his swagger and crowd favorite "biddy bengbeng" catchphrase to the Bay Area on Friday, May 30 at Shattuck Down Low (2284 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley).9 p.m., $17 adv. $22 DOS.
