Ebb + Flow 2013

When: Fri., Feb. 1, 8 p.m. 2013

One of America’s oldest collegiate dance programs, the Mills College dance department has been sending choreographers and performers into the world for 75 years, from Trisha Brown to Katie Faulkner. The department celebrates its diamond milestone with Ebb + Flow 2013, an alumni performance on Friday, Feb. 1, in the Lisser Theatre on campus (5000 MacArthur Blvd., Oakland). Seven MFA recipients from the classes of 1976 through 2012 will present solos and ensembles that express the immense variety of modern dance: Pamela Wunderlich’s homage to Pina Bausch; Cuauhtémoc Peranda’s mashup of tribal powwows, voguing, and butoh; a preview of Dana Lawton’s newest contemporary work; Rebecca Wilson’s riff on Man Ray and Lee Miller; Caroline Kappel’s installation with vegetables and turntables; Nzinga Woods’ fusion of modern and mythological African dance; and a multimedia piece by Daria Kaufman. Pre-show installation at 7:30 p.m., performance at 8 p.m.; $10 (cash only). 510-430-2255 or
