East Bay Queer Book Club feat. Chana Wilson

When: Sun., Oct. 28, 6 p.m. 2012

In 1958, Chana Wilson's mother held a gun to her daughter's head and pulled the trigger. Luckily, the gun jammed and she was taken to a mental hospital for treatment. Upon her return, young Wilson became her mother's caretaker, eventually learning that they shared one very big secret: They were both lesbians, and it was her mother's guilt over an affair with a married woman that caused her attempted-filicide breakdown. Now a writer and Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in Rockridge, Wilson chronicles forty years of struggle and forgiveness in her memoir, Riding Fury Home, which she shares at Books Inc. (1344 Park St., Alameda) on Sunday, Oct. 28, as their East Bay Queer Book Club's special guest. 6 p.m., free. 510-222-2226 or
