Dudu Tassa & The Kuwaitis

When: Wed., May 2, 8 p.m. 2018

Dudu Tassa is one of the most well-known artists in the Israeli rock scene. He’s been making headway in the states in recent years, having played Coachella and toured with Radiohead. While his music is contemporary and unique, he and his band, The Kuwaitis, have roots that are much older than rock and roll. Tassa’s latest project reinterprets the music of his Iraqi grandfather and uncle, known as the Al-Kuwaiti Brothers, who created some of the country’s most cherished songs in the 1930s and ’40s. As a kid, Tassa was embarrassed that his family listened to music sung in Arabic. Now as an adult, he not only embraces it but gives it a new voice for the modern era — and for the international community, not just Arabic speakers.
