Downtown Berkeley Bank Robbery Foiled

Berkeley cops and UC cops joined forces last Friday morning to nab some baddies who were armed with a foot-long knife and planning a bank robbery in downtown Berkeley.

Did we mention that two of the suspects were thirteen and fourteen years old? A UCPD bulletin gives details: "On Friday, September 26, 2008 at approximately 9:36 a.m. BPD was dispatched to investigate a suspicious person outside of the Mechanics Bank on the 2300 block of Shattuck near Bancroft. Upon arrival the officers found two suspects hiding in the bushes outside of the bank and another suspect casing the bank. When the officers approached the suspects a footchase ensued. BPD and UCPD detained two of the suspects near the scene and found the third suspect a short time later hiding in a parking garage on Durant. A 12-inch knife, a simulated firearm, a ski mask and a duffel bag were recovered from the suspects and they admitted to planning a bank robbery. All three suspects were subsequently taken into custody. The suspects are described as: Suspect #1 -- ANDERSON, Clyde, a Black male, 18 years of age. Suspect #2 -- A Black juvenile male, 13 years of age. Suspect #3 -- A Black juvenile male, 14 years of age." As if banks weren't already in enough trouble!
