Download Festival 2008

When: Sat., July 19, 2 p.m. 2008

After the first incarnation of Lollapalooza ended in 1997, few summer music festivals have captured the youth market so successfully -- though many are trying. Now in its fourth year, the Download Festival has tried to target the tech-geek/music-nerd base, promising an interactive wi-fi-enabled experience (like taking cell phone photos and beaming them to the giant video screen) coupled with "cutting-edge" music. While this year's headliners aren't exactly at the forefront of new music, Gang of Four and Jesus and Mary Chain are still exemplary of conceptual forward-thinkers, as evidenced by the countless young bands who cite them as influences. GoF (featuring original members Andy Gill and Jon King) and JMC will be joined by Tapes 'N Tapes, Brand New, Mute Math, Blitzen Trapper, and many more. On Saturday, July 19 at Shoreline Amphitheatre (One Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View). 1 p.m., $20.
