Theater & Performing Arts

When: Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m., Sundays, 2:30 p.m. and Wednesdays, 7:30 p.m. Continues through Nov. 22 2008

Depicting a stern, traditional-minded nun grappling with the suggestion that the new, infuriatingly informal priest may have taken advantage of a new student, the 2004 Broadway debut of John Patrick Shanley'sDoubt netted a Pulitzer Prize for drama and Tony Awards for best play, direction, and acting for star Cherry Jones and featured performer Adriane Lenox. Bay Area audiences got their introduction two years later when the Broadway team came to San Francisco's Golden Gate Theatre in 2006. It's a tough act to follow, but Center REPertory Company's production gives reason to be optimistic: it's directed by former San Jose Rep artistic director Timothy Near, who recently staged a marvelous Uncle Vanya for Cal Shakes, and stars terrific local actor Lorri Holt as the formidable Sister Aloysius. October 23 through November 22 at LesherCenter for the Arts (1601 Civic Dr., Walnut Creek) or 925-943-7469.
