Dominant Legs

When: Tue., Sept. 27, 9 p.m. 2011

You can have a skilled crew of musicians lay down the tightest groove and the sweetest melody, but when it comes down to it, the time-tested lynchpin of a great song is the human voice. Ryan Lynch has exactly that  -- he's a unique and appealing singer whose sounds land somewhere between Belle & Sebastian and the stirring vocals of Tracy Chapman. For a couple years now, Lynch has been writing sensible pop, the kind of sentimentally happy airs you'd expect to hear on an Eighties dance floor. It'll be Dominant Legs' last show for a while before the band heads out on tour with Portland's Nurses, another electronic-pop group with a slightly darker sound. Local teen surf rockers The She's will open; the band isseasoned at warming up audiences for Bay Area notables, and as far as I know its members are still in high school. It's the official release party for Dominant Legs' new LP Invitation, out on the same day, and Nurses will be celebrating its recent release, Dracula. At Cafe Du Nord on Tuesday, Sept. 27. 9 p.m., $10-$12.
