Dogtown Sausage

Restaurant Details

Dogtown Sausage is not, in fact, in Dogtown. Dogtown Sausage’s owner, Abdul Ali, grew up in the West Oakland neighborhood of Dogtown, where the hot dog shop was originally supposed to open. But after the building was deemed a historic landmark, Ali opened up shop in East Oakland. Although there are no pork products here, there’s still a wide range of sausages to choose from, including lamb, halal beef hot links, and chipotle veggie. Plus, every hot dog comes on a housemade split-top Japanese milk bread bun. Try the chicken-fried chicken sausage, crusted with panko bread crumbs and potato flakes, then topped with a spicy rainbow slaw. Or go for the Bull Dog, a hot link topped with grilled peppers, onions, and cheddar cheese sauce. Don’t miss the side dishes like chili cheese fries topped with housemade halal chili, or the excellent toasted quinoa salad made from herbs freshly harvested from the back patio. The back patio, aptly named the “Dog Yard,” is dog-friendly and perfect for enjoying a signature hot dog on a sunny day.
