Dirty Projectors with Wye Oak

When: Fri., July 27, 8 p.m. 2012

Baltimore duo Wye Oak has been around since 2006, but it finally blew up last year, deservedly so, thanks to its third album, Civilian, a more focused, mature vision of its dreamy, moody, quiet/loud indie folkish-rock. The band got asked to play huge festivals (like Outside Lands), contributed a song to the Adult Swim singles program, got its songs on various TV shows, and was even sampled by Berkeley rapper Young L of The Pack. The NPR favorite has been on a long promotional push ever since, playing headlining tours of Europe and the United States and is now supporting Brooklyn's Dirty Projectors on a US tour. Drummer/keyboardist Andy Stack and singer/guitarist JennWasner seem incredibly humble about all the exposure, which just makes us like them even more. On Friday, July 27, at The Fox Theater (1807 Telegraph Ave., Oakland). 8 p.m., $25.
