Devin the Dude

When: Thu., May 3, 9 p.m. 2012

Famed weed enthusiast, molten-voiced rapper, and bluesy hook singer Devin the Dude makes frequent appearances in the East Bay, often in venues that, at one point, might have seemed like a dramatic underplay for an emcee of his stature. That said, Devin seems to have a strong connection to Bay Area audiences, perhaps owing to our strong underground hip-hop scene, or our appreciation for left-field rap styles, or our commitment to marijuana. He'll return this week with an interesting retinue: Bored Stiff rapper Equipto (who came of age in the Nineties, though his name still has currency in certain parts of San Francisco), CougheeBrothaz, and host David Faustino, who is also a rapper, apparently, though he's better known for playing Bud Bundy on the sitcom Married with Children. (All event postings had to mention that parenthetically.) They'll all perform at The New Parish (579 18th St., Oakland) on Thursday, May 3. 9 p.m., $18-$30, TheNewParish.com
