According to the Chron, Oakland has budgeted $16 million for police overtime this fiscal year. Unfortunately, the city has already burned through a third of that money, and it’s only October. On Friday, the mayor and the City Council discussed ways to keep overtime costs from spiraling out of control while getting a handle on violent crime. “We have not seen the worst,” Dellums told the Council. “We are in for even darker times here.” City employees packed the joint with angry members and angry picket signs.
