Definitely, Maybe

Rated PG-13 112 minutes 2008

Definitely, Maybe is Ryan Reynolds’ latest attempt at becoming a movie star, a position his talent warrants, but his bad luck with roles has yet to facilitate. As Will Hayes, a man in the midst of a divorce, he’s stuck with the unenviable job of explaining to his curious daughter how he and her mother met (didn’t they make a TV show about this?). Unfortunately, this big-budget romantic comedy suffers from tonal schizophrenia; every step along the way, it wants to be a small, sophisticated indie comedy, but the studio sheen is so damn shiny that you never quite settle into the story. The happy ending will leave you with a smile on your face, but your gut won’t agree (112 min.).
