Def Leppard

When: Fri., Sept. 9, 7:30 p.m. 2011

Though not as big a crossover success as its Eighties hard rock peer Bon Jovi, Def Leppard has nonetheless gone beyond its hair-metal roots, looking to Nashville to extend its fanbase. Much in the way Jon Bon Jovi tapped Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland to create the chart-topping 2005 smash "Who Says You Can't Go Home," the British quintet followed suit by collaborating with Tim McGraw on the 2008 single "Nine Lives." Def Leppard also sought to firm up its pop country credibility by making an impressive appearance on the CMT Awards alongside country music ingenue Taylor Swift around that same time. Now the band is taking a page out of Soundgarden's book by touring behind its first live album, Mirrorball & More. These good ol' boys will be joined by Heart at the Shoreline Amphitheatre (One Amphitheatre Pkwy., Mountain View) on Friday, Sept. 9. 7:30 p.m., $45-$95.
