Deadfest

When: Fri., Aug. 17, 8 p.m. and Sat., Aug. 18, 4 p.m. 2012

Gregg "Deadface," a member of local punk bands Wartrash and Your Enemy, admits he has a hard time saying "no." That could explain how the Rhode Island native ended up booking a punk music festival with fifty-two bands playing over two days. The second-annual Deadfest -- a showcase of underground hardcore, doom, death metal, thrash, and any other dark and/or fierce punk-derived sub-genre you can name -- has doubled in size from last year, and with bands scheduled to play in rapid-fire succession across four spaces on the floor of the Oakland Metro (630 3rd St., Oakland), the effect is likely to be a full-on ear drum assault. If you missed them earlier this month, be sure to check out Portland-based band The Body on night one and local hardcore headliners Negative Standards on day two. If neither are your bag, there are fifty other bands that might be. On Friday, Aug. 17. 8 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 18, 4 p.m,, $8 each night. OaklandMetro.com
