Author David Sedaris has written extensively about his bizarre family (which includes actress Amy Sedaris), his plague of neurotic ticks, his obsession with collecting trash on the side of the road, and his years of dabbling with meth. It’s dark, cynical, critical, and digs deep inside the human mind. It’s also hilarious. Sedaris has the kind of dry wit that will have you crying in tears while you’re actually crying about something as dark as one of his siblings committing suicide. His essays are autobiographical, and loaded with self-depreciation, and they work splendidly well as spoken word pieces. In fact, he tours all the time, cracking up audiences wherever you goes. Sometimes he’ll workshop new essays in the live setting. He never knows when a piece is truly finished till it gets just the right laughs from a crowded theater.
