Dave Prager

When: Wed., Dec. 4, 7 p.m. 2013

When the Madison Avenue advertising company he worked for offered him a chance to spend a year and a half at the office’s New Delhi branch, Dave Prager leaped at the opportunity. A week later, Prager and his wife found themselves in one of world’s megacities, trying to stay out of the scorching heat of the Delhi summer and out of the path of ruthless auto-rickshaws. Nothing could have prepared them for what was to come. Divided into twelve thematic chapters, which focus on issues such as transportation and food, Prager’s latest book, Delirious Delhi, includes hilarious anecdotes from the couple’s experience living in New Delhi. What distinguishes Prager’s depiction is that he avoids the Western clichés of India as a place of spiritual journey or of poverty. Join Bay Area resident Prager at Books Inc. (1760 Fourth St., Berkeley) as he discusses how he and his wife eventually fell in love with a city of 16 million people.
