Daryoush Persian Cuisine

Price: $$$

Restaurant Details

Persian restaurants are a rarity around here — in fact, Daryoush is the only table service Persian restaurant in Berkeley. For appetizers, try the tahdig, the prized buttery, crisp layer of rice from the bottom of the pot topped with your choice of stew. Or get the mirza ghasemi, a sweet-smoky, velvety roasted eggplant dip topped with scrambled egg for richness. The kabobs also ascend beyond your basic grilled meat: the jujeh kabob is made with filet mignon marinated with saffron, while the koobideh (ground beef or chicken) kabobs are sweet and juicy thanks to plenty of onion. The stews also set Daryoush apart; try the ghormeh sabzi, a lamb stew made with spinach, herbs, and dried lime, or the khoresht fesenjoon, a sweet-tart stew made with pomegranate and walnuts. For dessert, don’t miss the custardy, floral homemade saffron-pistachio ice cream.
